(Written for two women who were murdered in
Minneapolis parking ramps in 1988)

I heard they shot her in a parking lot,
Before she left us, I remembered the good things she's brought
To help with the sound
Of walls coming down, walls coming down

I heard a preacher named Jesse,
They'd like to break him, but he makes it a little too messy
To push him around
I'm talking 'bout walls coming down,
Said I'm talking 'bout walls, walls coming down
(Talking 'bout the Jesse Jackson campaign of 1988)

So I went over to Russia,
They're only people, they look just like we do in Rubushka,
They're breaking new ground
I hear them talking 'bout walls coming down,
Said they're talking 'bout walls, walls coming down

I'm talking 'bout freedom and democracy in Afghanistan,
Ripping down the Iron Curtain in Eastern Europe,
And the onset of universal human rights and freedom in the 21st century!

And I'm talking 'bout you, yeah, you and me
We'll make it happy and free, with the walls coming down
Walls coming down, said we're talking 'bout walls, walls coming down

I heard they shot her in a parking lot,
Before she left us, I remembered the good things she's brought
To help with the sound -- walls coming down!
